Name:  Kristi Reyes

Age:  in my late (very late) 30s

Occupation:  College Professor

Interests:  reading, movies, nature, animals, yoga, computers, travel, learning

About me:

I love languages and cultures. Given that, I have the perfect job! My international experiences include one year studying in France and two years training teachers for the U.S. Peace Corps in Tonga, an island kingdom in the South Pacific. I received my M.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language from Northern Arizona University in 1997. I have taught in MiraCosta's noncredit ESL program since 1998. In 2004, I became the lead instructor for Vocational ESL. I have a wonderful husband, bright daughter, loving cat, and two carefree goldfish, Tom and Jerry. In my free time, I enjoy nature hikes, long walks, good movies, and mystery novels. My favorite pastime is visiting new places. My students are my motivation and inspiration. My goal is to assist them in gaining the confidence they need in using English to achieve their own educational and career goals.

My Personal Seal

My personal seal has different images and symbols that demonstrate who I am.  There is a background image and five other symbols and images.  First, the background image is a photo of Harney Peak, a mountain located near my hometown.  From the top, you can see five states.  This image represents where I come from, which has had a big influence on my character.  Next, the symbol of a book represents my love of teaching and learning.  The heart-shaped image is a photo of the two most important people in my life:  my husband and daughter.  The apple represents my career, teaching, which I love.  The computer represents something new I am learning and how I spend a lot of my time these days.  Last, the travel image represents something I like to do and want to do more of in the future in order to broaden my horizons and open my mind further.  In conclusion, this seal shows my character and what I value in life.

Instructor's Sample Paragraph:  An Important Place

My Cozy Living Room

My favorite place is my living room in my house because it is a place with a lot of activity.  It is a typical living room with a TV, couch, chair, coffee table, and bookshelf, but the people inside make it special.  My daughter, husband, and I spend a lot of time there.  It is the place where I spend my weekends talking with my family, watching movies, getting the latest news, and reading.  My living room has been my favorite place for a long time now.  I have rarely shared this place with others outside my immediate family.  This place makes me feel warm, cozy, and relaxed, and that is why it is my favorite place to be in the whole world.
